What is a Backlink?

There are two types of links:
Outbound Links – a link on your website pointing out to another website or web page.
Inbound Links (Backlinks) – an Inbound Link (Backlink) is an incoming link to your website.

Why Do They Matter?

Google needs some way to determine which website show at the top of it’s search engine result page. In order to return the best results google looks sites that are “relevant” to the search term. Backlinks are one of the main ways they determine how “relevant” your site is. So according to google, the number of backlinks is a major indication of the relevancy or importance of your website.

So for search engine optimization, backlinks are very important.

How Do We Get Them?

There are many methods of getting backlinks. The easiest, is just by asking a website owner to link to you. But often you don’t have a list of several hundred website owners handy, and even if you did they may not want to link to your site.
